Groshan Fabiola asked:

Medical services have never been cheap- this is a well-known fact. However, over the past few years, we have witnessed an ascending trend of health care premiums. Subsequently, more and more people are looking into alternative ways to ensure medical attention whilst saving money as much as possible. We all know our health is very important, yet we sometimes choose to neglect possible symptoms of a serious condition on account of huge medical bills. The situation is all the more desperate for those who are not insured or whose medical insurance plan is limited and does not cover many services. Fortunately, everyone who wants to save on their medical services and prescriptions is presented with an excellent solution. We are talking about discount medical services programs. These programs are not insurance plans, yet they are a lot more convenient than health insurance. Discount medical services are available to those who opt for a savings card plan.

As has been said before, discount medical services plans are not insurance plans. Some people may argue that these medical discount plans offer less protection to subscribers because they do not fall under any particular legislation. However, even in the absence of a specific legislation to regulate such discount medical services plans, subscribers are still protected by the general consumer rights.
Discount medical services plans do not include the payment of any claims. Subscribers will still have to pay their medical bills for the services they receive, but these discount cards will provide substantial savings for those who do not have medical insurance or whose insurance plans are limited.

Discount medical services plans emerge as an excellent solution to the health care crisis that many people are faced with. Cardholders are offered discounted rates for the medical services they purchase. The same goes for prescription drugs and other healthcare products. Discount medical prescription cards are available from a variety of organizations, either health maintenance organizations or otherwise.

Discount medical prescription cards allow their users to benefit from approximately twenty percent discount for the prescription medicines that they would normally pay for in full. The discount medical prescription cards can be used frequently and for any member of the family, regardless of the type of prescription. The only drawback that these discount medical prescription cards have is that they cannot be used in every pharmacy. However, some prescription savings cards can be used in tens of thousands of pharmacies in the U.S., at least of one which must be near your home of your place of work.

Discount medical services plans and discount medical prescription cards are available from a variety of providers. Your only concern is to perform a diligent search of such savings card providers and be able to distinguish fraudulent card plans from legitimate ones. As has been said before, discount medical services and discount medical prescription plans are not insurance plans. They represent a means towards saying your money and benefiting from medical services and prescription drugs at discounted rates. Therefore, any savings card provider who attempts to pass on these card plans as insurance plans is very likely to be illegitimate.

Medications For Erectile Dysfunction - Find the Best Cure Now!

| Medicine | Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Alex Rocklane asked:

There are many types of medications for erectile dysfunction in the market today. Finding the right cure should be taken with the necessary precaution so as to alleviate and not aggravate your medical condition.

Below are some medications for erectile dysfunction. Find the best cure for you now!

1. Oral medications

Oral medications require a certain amount of time before it takes effect. A person taking oral medication for erectile dysfunction should take it at least an hour before sexual activity.

Below are drugs known as phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors. These drugs work mainly by blocking the enzyme PDE5, thus maintaining the level of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP). Intake of these medications, coupled with sexual stimulation, increases the blood flow in the penis, causing erection.

Incidentally, these are also FDA-approved drugs.

PDE5 Inhibitors as Medications for Erectile Dysfunction:

Medication Developer / Distributor Unique Selling Proposition Duration Common Side Effects

Sildenafil (Viagra) Pfizer First oral medication for erectile dysfunction approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; brand name Viagra is more commonly known than its competitors 4-5 hours Headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, impaired vision(Applicable for all PDE5 inhibitors.)

Vardenafil (Levitra; Vivanza) Bayer Pharmaceuticals (Levitra); GSK (Vivanza, another brand of vardenafil) Nausea (Unique to this drug only.)

Tadalafil (Cialis) Lilly ICOS, LLC Known as “The Weekend Pill” because it lasts longer than Viagra and Levitra 36 hours Back pain, muscle aches

(Onset 12-24 hours after use and usually lasts up to 48 hours.)

To get a hold on these drugs, doctor’s prescription is necessary.

2. Injected Medications

Unlike oral medications, injected medications for erectile dysfunction take effect automatically.

Ways to administer injected medications for erectile dysfunction:

a. Inject directly into the penis.

Injecting drugs directly into the penis causes the blood vessels to widen, allowing blood increase to flow into the organ, thus providing it with a sufficient amount of blood needed to sustain an erection. Most men achieve stronger erections when using injected medications.

b. Inject into the urethra (Muse system)

Drug is injected about an inch deep into the urethra.

Side effects are inevitable with this type of medication, especially if the instruments used are not sterilized. Most common side effects for injected medications are:

• Scarring

• Redness

• Tenderness and swelling

• Minor bleeding or spotting

• Priapism or persistent and painful erection

• Allergic reactions such as rashes, itching, dizziness, and difficulty in breathing

• *For Urethral Injection:

- Burning sensation in the urethra

Standard drugs used as injected medications for erectile dysfunction are:

• Alprostadil (i.e. Caverject, Edex)

• Phentolamine

• Papaverine

Alpostadil as medication for erectile dysfunction:

• Safe to use even for men with medical conditions such as diabetes

• Safe for men taking nitrate-based medications and prostate cancer treatments

• Unsafe for men with penile implants

• Should be taken at a maximum of 3 times per week (allowing one day rest period between for each injection)

3. Topical Medications

An example for this type of medication is nitroglycerin. This acts as a muscle relaxant which, when rubbed on the penis, can enhance erection.

Another example of a topical medication for erectile dysfunction is the TriMix Gel. A research showed that men who did not get the desired effect from oral medications such as Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, got a better response from this medication.

Precautionary measures to take when using TriMix Gel:

• Use a condom to prevent your partner from having an allergic reaction, especially if pregnant or sensitive to prostaglandin.

• Do not use if you yourself are sensitive to prostaglanding. Consult your doctor before using this type of medication.

• Be sure to wash your hands before applying the medication.

• Clean the tip of your penis before applying medication.

• Do not put more than necessary.

Prevention of Colorectal Cancer

| Health | Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Groshan Fabiola asked:

The colon and rectum is a part of the large intestine and their functions are to absorb water and nutrients from food this way concentrating the stool, and to form and store the stool until its evacuation.

Cancer is an affection which interferes in the process of cell division and makes the cells divide chaotically, leading to a mass of abnormal cells that forms a tumor. Colorectal cancer is the disease that affects the cells from the colon and rectum creating a malign or benign tumor.

Colorectal cancer can evolve until it spreads to other organs like lungs, bones and liver, building tumors over there too. Tumors take food and oxygen from the other healthy cells and in the end they take their space.

Scientists have declared that in US 1 of 17 people are at risk of developing colorectal cancer, and the most affected ones are men.

In the whole world, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer in males and the fourth in women. It is quite rare in Asia and Africa but you can find it frequently in the Western world. Those who have adopted western diets are at risk to develop colorectal cancer.

Most of the colon cancers are adenocarcinomas, meaning that they come from polyps situated inside the intestines.

These polyps are benign at first but left untreated for several years they will end up transforming into malign polyps and cause cancer.

This adenomatous polyposis syndrome is found in the same family members, so it has a genetic base. There is a type of nonpolyposis colorectal cancer syndrome which also occurs in the same family members but now people who are at risk can be identified through genetic screening.

By finding these cancer sensible people doctors can council them and program them for regular screening in order to prevent cancer from occurring.

People who suffer of Crohn disease or who have had breast or uterine cancer and a family history of colon cancer are at risk of developing colorectal cancer too.

Scientists have not found out exactly why this disease occurs but they believe that if you are obese and you follow a diet that is rich in proteins and fats and low in fiber you might develop cancer

Drinking alcohol is also a factor that leads to cancer.

Until now scientists believe that estrogen replacement therapy and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer.

Natural Health Therapies and Cancer – Part One

| Health | Monday, November 23rd, 2009
cancer
Jerry Ryan, Ph.D. asked:

Cancer. The word itself is alarming. It sounds like a death sentence. In many cases, it is. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. The topic of cancer is so large that we will take at least three or four articles to even begin to touch on the main points. Like any other illness, the more you know about it, the better you’ll be able to deal with it. For example, how much did you know about your own health issues before they touched your life personally? What would you have done differently in your life if you knew that it would prevent the problem from happening? Would you have been willing to make the changes? I imagine that you would. You have that opportunity with cancer. In a series of articles, we’ll cover not only the natural health therapies for cancer but the lifestyle changes that help prevent cancer as well.

The increase in the rate of cancer is amazing. A hundred years ago, 1 in 33 people had cancer; today, 1 in 3 people either have cancer or will develop it. Statistics show that one American life is lost to cancer every 45 seconds. There is no other topic in medicine that has such urgency. So, exactly what is cancer? Basically, it is nature gone overboard. Healthy cells stop functioning properly for a variety of reasons and then begin to reproduce damaged copies of themselves. The natural process of cells multiplying becomes accelerated because these new mutant cells are not regulated by the body’s normal controls. In addition, the life span of these cells is not controlled any longer, meaning that cancer cells become virtually immortal.

There are types and stages of cancer. Of the 150 different types of cancer, there are 5 major groups:

• Carcinomas – solid tumors from cells in the surface of the mouth, nose, throat, lung airways, skin, GI tract, GU tract, breast, and thyroid. Lung, prostate, stomach, skin, colon, and breast cancers are in this type.

• Sarcomas – solid tumor from bones, fat, and other soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, abdomen, heart, central nervous system, and blood vessels. These are the most rare and most deadly of solid tumors.

• Leukemias – a blood-borne cancer type characterized by an abnormal production of white blood cells.

• Lymphomas – solid masses of abnormal white blood cells concentrated in the lymph system. Examples of this type of cancer include Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.

• Myelomas – rare tumors from antibody-producing or blood cell-producing areas in the bone marrow.

Cancer is often described by what stage it is in. Staging in cancer refers to a scale used to determine amount of cancer, its location, size, and degree of containment. The four different levels listed below describe the stages of cancer.

• Stage I – earliest, most curable stage. Local tumor only.

• Stage II – some spreading of cancer to surrounding tissue and maybe nearby lymph nodes.

• Stage III – involves spreading to distant lymph nodes

• Stage IV – most advanced, least easily cured. Cancer has spread to distant organs.

Why do some people get cancer and others don’t? What is the trigger that turns these healthy cells into mutants? What causes cancer? There are at least 33 contributing causes, according to various researchers. Each of these factors could be an article in itself so I’ll just provide you with the list for now. With this information, you can easily research these contributing items to increase your cancer knowledge. The factors that can contribute to cancer are:

1. Sunlight

2. Nuclear Radiation

3. Pesticide/Herbicide Residues

4. Industrial Toxins

5. Polluted Water

6. Tobacco and Smoking

7. Chronic Electromagnetic Field Exposure

8. Hormone Therapies

9. Immune-Suppressive Drugs

10. Irradiated Foods

11. Food Additives

12. Mercury Toxicity

13. Dental Factors

14. Chronic Stress

15. Depressed Thyroid Action

16. Intestinal Toxicity and Digestive Impairment

17. Parasites

18. Viruses

19. Diet and Nutritional Deficiencies

20. Nerve Interference Fields

21. Toxic Emotions

22. Blocked Detoxification Pathways

23. Chlorinated Water

24. Fluoridated Water

25. Ionizing Radiation

26. Geopathic Stress

27. Sick Building Syndrome

28. Free Radicals

29. Cellular Oxygen Deficiency

30. Cellular Terrain

31. Oncogenes

32. Genetic Predisposition

33. Miasm

Now that we have a little background knowledge on cancer, we will begin to cover a wide range of clinically proven natural health therapies that can be helpful for people with various forms of cancer. Each of these types of complementary medicine has a wealth of scientific research available for review, thanks to the ongoing research of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition, each of the therapies is currently available through physicians with outstanding medical backgrounds. The bottom line is that all of the cancer therapies that I will discuss in the next few articles are valid and have been documented in scientific literature.

In upcoming articles, we will explore the use of the following methods for cancer therapy supported by scientific evidence:

• Nutrition – Dietary changes and Anti-Cancer Nutritional Supplements

• Anti-Cancer Herbal Supplements

• Innovative Anti-Cancer Substances

• Physical Support Therapies – Detoxification, Biological Dentistry, Water Therapy, Heat Therapy, Bodywork/Therapeutic Massage/Exercise, Qi Gong

• Energy Support Therapies – Electrodermal Screening, Magnetic Therapy, Light Therapy

In closing, please remember that early detection and prevention is the key to beating cancer. Here are the 8 Early Warning Signs for Cancer. If you experience any of these signs or symptoms, contact your physician immediately.

1. A Lump in the Breast or Testicles.

2. A Change in a Wart or Mole.

3. A Skin Sore or Sore Throat that Does Not Heal.

4. A Change in Bowel or Bladder Habits.

5. A Persistent Cough or Coughing Blood.

6. Constant Indigestion or Trouble Swallowing

7. Unusual Bleeding or Vaginal Discharge

8. Chronic Fatigue

Alternative Medicine for Treating Cancer

| Health | Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Markus Wahlgren asked:

Cancer is the name given to any illness resulting from one of our body’s own cells growing out of control. There are many processes that control a cell’s growth and division, each of which can go wrong. Several of these control mechanisms need to be damaged before a cell becomes cancerous. There are more than 200 different types of cancers, which are categorized in to carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma and leukemia based on the cells from which they arise.

The principles involved in treating cancer are either directly destroying the cancer tissues or indirectly destroying them by depriving them of blood supply and/or their nutrition. But the irony is that whatever conventional treatment is used to destroy cancer cells do affect to some extent the normal cells also. They may damage the skin, liver, intestine the bone marrow and other rapidly multiplying cells. Sometimes the effect of the treatment is more devastating than the disease itself.

Role of Alternative Medicine in treating cancer

A larger study of Alternative medicine use in patients with different types of cancer was published in the July 2000 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. It was found that nearly 70% of the patients used at least one form alternative medicine along with the conventional treatment. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) are sponsoring a number of clinical trials at medical centers to evaluate alternative medical therapies for cancer.

Alternative medicine includes therapies like herbal remedies, vitamins, special diets, and acupuncture among others.

Acupuncture: effective in the management of chemotherapy associated nausea and vomiting and in controlling pain associated with surgery. Now used in a trial to reduce the symptoms of colorectal cancer

-Homeopathy

-Ayurveda

-Shark cartilage: Being tried in non-small cell lung cancer. it prevents new blood vessels growth

-Hyperbaric oxygen: In patients who had larynx removed for larynx cancer

-Massage therapy: for cancer related fatigue

-Pancreatic enzyme therapy along with specialized diet for the treatment of pancreatic cancer

-Mistletoe extract: for the treatment of solid tumors

-Wheatgrass therapy

-Macrobiotics: The macrobiotic diet is strictly vegetarian and requires you to consume about half of your daily calories from whole grains, about a quarter of your calories from vegetables, and the rest of your calories from beans, seaweed and soups

-Bioelectric therapies

-Moerman’s Anti-Cancer diet

-Hoxsey herbal therapy

-Essiac herbal therapy: Essiac is a herbal tea mixture that relieves pain and reduces the size of tumors. It contains four herbs- burdock, rhubarb, sheep sorrel and slippery elm

-Pau D’Arco herbal therapy

-Chaparral herbal therapy

-Laetrile (amygdalin): a chemical found in lima beans, raw nuts and the pits of many fruits. Amygdalin produces cyanide, which proponents claim kills cancer

-Alkaline diet: such as fruits and vegetables and restricting acidic foods

-Antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables

-Vitamins A, C and E: These are very good anti oxidants

-Detox therapies including Gonzales nutritional metabolic therapy, colon therapy, and Gerson therapy

The most successful practitioners integrate various components of the alternative cancer treatments for a better outcome.

Information on Skin Cancer

| Skin Care | Sunday, November 22nd, 2009
cancer information
Jenelia asked:

What is skin cancer?

It is a disease where cancer (malignant) cells are found in the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). Skin cancers can develop from a build-up of sun exposure over the years. There are 3 types of skin cancer.

Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that occurs on areas exposed to the sun. People with fair complexions who do not tan easily, are most at risk. Basal cell cancers do not usually spread through the body although it can spread below to the bone. Normally it’s not life threatening but should be treated immediately.

Early Detection

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has concluded that there is not enough evidence to recommend for or against routine screening (total-body examination by a clinician) to detect skin cancers early. However, USPSTF does recommend 1) that clinicians be aware that fair-skinned men and women aged 65 and older, and people with atypical moles or more than 50 moles, are at greater risk for developing melanoma and 2) that clinicians remain alert for skin abnormalities when conducting physical examinations for other purposes.

Skin cancers include melanoma, basal cell, and squamous cell. Basal and squamous cell are common and treatment is very effective; malignant melanoma, especially in later stages of melanoma, is serious and treatment is difficult. Sun exposure is the biggest cause of melanoma and other skin cancers, but early diagnosis and treatment can increase the survival rate from melanoma. Learn about the signs of all skin cancers, and familiarize yourself with pictures of skin cancer so you can spot it early.

Consider High-Tech Clothing

When selecting clothes for sun protection, consider fabrics that have been specially treated with chemical UV absorbers, known as colorless dyes. These prevent some penetration of both UVB and UVA rays. A number of manufacturers are now making special sun-protective clothing that has been treated with a chemical sunblock during the manufacturing process. In addition, they use fabrics of the weave and colors that provide protection best. The garments are designed to cover as much of the skin as possible.

Skin cancer treatment

The amount of skin to be taken off the site of the mole depends on how large the melanoma was and how close the borders were to the first incision. A parameter of one to two inches in an elliptical shape is typically removed. Depending on the location of the mole, there could be some skin grafting required. Overall, the amount of skin taken off isn’t as radical as it used to be now that more research has been done to determine recovery rates with varying degrees of wide excision.

Next, depending on the size of the melanoma, you may only have follow-up visits with your dermatologist and/or oncologist or you may need more thorough treatment. Some doctors want to perform a sentinel node biopsy prior to a wide excision to determine the accurate drainage pattern of the lymphatic system. What this determines is how the lymph system flows around where the melanoma was and thus tells them which way the cancer might be spreading. But, some physicians practice sentinel node biopsy for lesions over 1.0 mm to try to be certain the cancer has not spread.
